Child executions

According to the United Nations, a child is a
person under the age of 18. Despite the fact
that the government of Iran has signed
International Covenants that forbid them to
execute anyone who has allegedly committed an
offence before the age of 18, they continue
to do so. Amnesty International has
documented 26 executions of child offenders
in Iran since 2005. In many cases, these
minors have been imprisoned until the age of
18 and then executed. Currently, there are at
least 134 minors on death row in Iran.

Iranian Kurd Makwan Moloudzadeh was sentenced
to death for raping three teenage boys when
he was 13 years old. He was hanged at
December 5, 2007 in the morning at a prison
in Kermanshah province in western Iran.
Makwan was executed despite his alleged rape
victims withdrawing their accusations and a
judicial review and stay of execution being
ordered into the sentence.

(In Iran any Homosexual physical sexual
contact is classed as rape.. even when
between consenting males)

Mahmoud Asgari and Ayaz Marhoni were Iranian
teenagers( both 13) from the province of
Khuzestan who were hanged in Edalat (Justice)
Square in Mashad northeast Iran, on July 19,
2005. Charged for homosexual sex.

Prior to their execution, the two were also
given 228 lashes each for drinking,
disturbing the peace and theft.

Atefeh Rajabi Salaaleh was a sixteen year-old
Iranian girl who was executed (publicly
hanged) in Iran after being sentenced to
death by an Iranian judge for having sexual
intercourse with an older man.

16 year old Mona were together with 9 other
Bahai women executed in June 1983. The
primary charge against her was teaching
Bahá’í children’s classes.

primary charge against her was teaching
Bahá’í children’s classes. Because her youth
and conspicuous innocence became a symbol of
the group in prison, she was lashed on the
soles of her feet with a cable and forced to
walk on bleeding feet. On the day of the
execution she asked to be the last in line to
be executed so she could pray for the others.
All she had to do to avoid execution was to
denounce her faith but she refused, and
instead when it was her turn, she kissed the
rope and put it around her own neck.

What kind of world do we live in, when we can
murder our children, just for minor crimes,
sexuality and religious beliefs?

Yea, a lot of those cases are beyond belief.

No doubt the "older man" will still be alive
though.

Odd idea of a justice system in Iran.

And maybe the other teenagers took hissy fit
at normal teenagers do, decided the simply
didnt like and him and set out to cause as
much trouble as they could without truly
understanding the implications or
consequences.

Children are children up to the age of 18 for
one simple reason. They dont have the
emotional and mental capacity to think things
right the way through.

Cathy you should be ashamed of yourself for
even thinking along the lines you do. Where
is your human compassion and understanding?

altho` we have to be cautious about the
western press reporting on Iran - the
stoneage muslim laws, do give women a bad
time - as you say the young girl is hanged
and the older guy walks away - presumably
able to do it again..... this is why I bang
on about muslim women in the UK.. they must
stop treating them as 2nd class citizens. We
can`t influence, nor should we, what happens
in Iran-- but we can here in our OWN land.

Why did they bother if they are just going to
ignore it.

Because it`s religious law noy the state law.
We used to burn witches at the stake here a
few hundred yrs ago---- why is it always the
women that get the wrong end of the stick..
We`d stamped it all out ,pretty well in the
UK, till we let these muslims in, bringing
their stoneage ways into our land with them.
Where are the womens libbers..? they never
seem to get involved in the human rights of
muslim women here in Britain.

Is child execution is henious and deplorable
because Understanding and Compassion cry out
day and night from the rooftops to say it is
.. or because it goes anainst a UN
convention?

Er..I ask is because, I think we're all
understanding and compassionate..when we see
a tsumami or bombs raining down on innocents
for example.. at the same time I guess
though, it could be asked of any of us.. hey,
where was your compassion when so and so
happened?

I think it's a shame that if you feel
understanding and compassionate, but fail to
direct these qualities as the UN tells you
to, it becomes all easy to be seen as an
enemy of "everything that's good".
*sigh

lol..I didn't actually expect a response, was
just me thinking aloud..

Child execution is henious and deplorable
like I say ..I just hope Iran breaking their
UN agreement doesn't result in UN sanctions,
UN approved war, posibly costing more lives
etc. but all with our emotional support.

goodnite

The horrible truth is such things happen all
over the world. Not just children but all
types of people,everywhere. A victim is a
victim.

I think the greater question is when did
death become an appropriate response for
questionable convictions or with no
conviction al all? Or even the question
being when have we in good sense tried to
help thwart the harm of another?

hmmmm....while I dont agree with child
executions, Im assuming that children are
taught that if they do "these wrong things"
they will be killed.....and I dont know about
anyone else....but the threat of death would
have me on my best behaviour....

yes I know tic and alithefat

I just find child executions horrific (any
executions in fact)... some had committed
terrible crimes, many had not.

to be killed for your sexuality or beliefs as
a adult is bad enough... but to do it to a
child...

where does god and humanity .[censored]e into
such things.

what chance do children of our future stand..
when all they see from adults is violence?

Child executions are horrendous of course
there are and to our western ideas, shocking.
Sadly in many cultures, you are regarded as
an adult at a far earlier age than 18. Still
dreadful though, poor kids!
