I was bemoaning (as usual) the use of txt spk
and other errors that appear to be the norm
here in a telephone conversation with my
father.
He pointed out that when he was a cipher
operator some 50 years ago in the Royal
Signals; it was common practice to use
abbreviations such as 'UR' when sending
telegraphs to friends.
I thought it was an innovation created by the
mobile phone revolution, but I am obviously
wrong.
Well, you learn something new every
day...

I seem to use it more and more often when
emailing and of course in text, but only to
mates and family.I don't go totally overboard
though. Mum usually has a moan about it too. |
