Why do people play down their intelligence?
Is it something particular to Britain?
I'm not suggesting we should only relate on
an intellectual plain- nor do we need to
avoid doing so.
But, Can someone explain to me the fear I
see people have of acknowledging they have a
intellect and in occasionally using it?
Please note - this is not a dig but a
question. |

sure, and quite right too, but at the same
time, some people prefer never to reveal they
can think and revel in the thoughtlessness of
modern dross; why so? |

Modesty - plus the fact, when one tries to
advertise their 'intellect', it's a sure set
up for a knock-down - no-one like a bragger.

It depends. Some teenagers and young people
do it because they feel their intelligence
will be insulted or they will be outcast for
it.
In other circumstances it can also be due to
modesty and not wanting to brag. However, I
feel that by showing your intelligence you're
not bragging nor are you showing off - I
think it shows who we are and should be
revealed if high intelligence is there. |

I guess we all use a level of grammatical
communication that is attributable to those
we are talking to - for instance, some may
have a limited vocabulary - but their level
of intelligence might be quite high - it
depends on various factors like education and
social skills. One might be very articulate,
yet quite stupid forming an argument - and
vice-versa. Depends on how you measure
intelligence - IQ is simply one way to
measure it, not the be and end all. |

I think a lot of guys learn to act dum from
an early age- I guess its a difficult cover
to shake off once you have mastered it! |

Interesting question Zoo Zog. Do you know
that some people somehow how along the way
were made to believe or made themselves
believe that they are enept in certain areas
,be it math or social studies ,politically
,or in general knowledge ,some area or other.
They seem to down play the knowledge that
they have in areas as trivial ,for some
reason.
I think social pressure and insane
competition having been drilled into them
since the begining of school is a factor to
consider.
Essientially, I have never encountered a
smart ass that is all that smart. That's what
I tell those that think of themselves as
lacking in intelect. Although I once blew up
a flask in the science lab, some thought that
was pretty dumb. But what it really was, was
a learning experience.
And experience is the key to knowledge.
Experience is not something that is taught or
one just has. One must go out and seek it.
Most anyone can sit back on their tail and
have a opinion. But without experience behind
that opinion it may not amount to much if
anything at all.
The leson being ,experience counts for a lot. |

to do something you dont know how....thats

I think its a school thing, if you were smart
you are a geek. And no one wants to be put in
that bracket aas a kid. I like to think of my
self as pretty smart and in school i wasnt
afraid to admit that! But i was also good at
sports so i got away with being smart cause i
was good at sports so i never got called a
geek. I think people are afraid to show that
they are intelligent because of this. |

smart is simply knowing that there is always
room for improvement in everything that you
do. If one is always willing to learn, that's
smart. Smart is also the ability to realize
that every person gathers experience and with
that comes wisdom.
The lazy ones apply the philosophy power to
obtain what is not their own. Or discredit
unwanted improvements.
It's like oil,and industrial pollution, lazy
one's except that's the way it is because
that's the way it is. Too much is never
enough.

And if it is plastic,it is still recycylable
in it's image!But the plastic image
transforms ,perhaps into a telle!
But is that imitating nature? ! Ah, but the

That isn't general, I believe that its the
Working class company that you keep .It goes
back to their School days where the Working
Class Kids believe that its nerdy to study .
Its just Working Class ignorance |
