Has anyone else had problems when trying to
download BBC iPlayer programmes on to their
PC?
Everytime I try the CPU ends up at 100% and
the my PC becomes unstable.
Apparently the BBC iPlayer uses a program
called Kontiki to deliver the programmes to
your PC and that in turn uses your PC as a
download server for other iPlayer users.
The Channel 4 equivalent to iPlayer uses to
the Kontiki software as well.
I tried watching Doctor Who on the BBC's
iPlayer site but for some reason the footage
keeps stuttering. Not sure if there's too
many people using the BBC iPlayer site as it
was fine a few weeks ago but the last 2
attempts haven't been so good.
Modern technology - urgh!! |

you gotta download a dowotsit which
apparently works like limewire i suppose
meaning you're not technically downloading
from the bbc which could be why the
connection or whatever is messing up....
although i find it pointless to download from
iplayer as you only get the download for 30
days then it disappears... |

Yea, what's that all about, 30 days, pfft!
I've got 1-2MB broadband and it looked like
the 45 minute episode of Doctor Who was going
to take about an hour to download.
So bloody slow.
I'll try and watch it on the iPlayer site in
the early morning. See if it's any more
reliable. |

Thanks for that Bad Influence.
You'd think download managers would let you
throttle the download & upload usage.
I think WinMX used to let me do that.
My Firewall freaked when I starting
downloading Doctor Who, thought my PC was
being attacked.
"Denial of Service "Ping of Death" attack
detected.
Description:
In a Ping of Death attack, the hacker uses a
packet with a size that is larger than the
normal standard. When your system encounters
a packet of this size, it often crashes,
hangs, or reboots."
