jack89 Date: 2008-05-16 Time: 16:06:39	Four teenagers who kicked and stamped to death a cyclist in Bedfordshire have been jailed for life. Stephen Green, 55, from Luton, was attacked in an underpass in Dunstable by a gang as he cycled home last May, and died in hospital nine days later. Darryll Bennett, 18, Richard McNamara, 19, Nicholas Garland, 18, and Shane Liddy, 19, all from Luton, were convicted of murder last month. They were given minimum sentences of between 12 and 19 years. Bennett, said to be the ring-leader, was given a minimum term of 19 years at Luton Crown Court on Friday. He is currently serving a three-year sentence for two robberies and a theft for which he was on bail when he killed Mr Green, a former soldier. McNamara was sentenced to a minimum of 15 years, Garland a minimum of 12 years and Liddy a minimum of 16 years in jail. The court was told that the gang had been drinking brandy and strong beer and smoking cannabis before attacking Mr Green, of Ackworth Crescent, Luton. At court last month, Bennett, of Eighth Avenue; McNamara, of Butely Road; Garland, of Bradley Road and Liddy, of Brickley Road, all of Luton, pleaded not guilty to murder. Bennett, McNamara and Garland pleaded guilty to the alternative charge of manslaughter, and also admitted conspiracy to rob. Judge John Bevan QC told them: "You behaved as a pack that night for entertainment. I don't think animals behave in such a way. "Despicable, self indulgent cowardice seems to fit your behaviour. You were all out of control." Mr Green's brother Richard said: "He cycled because he loved nature and animals and was doing his bit for the planet. "He saw the best in everyone and didn't have a bad word to say about anything or anyone. "It is terrible what these people have done. They have devastated our family." Source: BBC.

marvin42 Date: 2008-05-17 Time: 19:39:46	Killer teenagers jailed for life what a load of rubbish, there is no life sentence in this country anymore. Those scumbags will be out in there 30's so where is the justice? British justice is a bloody joke and it will continual to be a joke.

treston Date: 2008-05-17 Time: 20:18:03	Right 4 lads got sent to jail for 16 years coz they thru stones at a bloke and killed him. The bloke was doin nothing wrong and now hes dead. 16 years for throwin stones. When I was little we had a stone fight English Vs germans,and turkish wen I lived in germany (dad was in the army) I threw a stone, it was massive, I hit a girl in the head and face with it. I didnt mean to hit her really, not like that but if she died I cud have got 16 years for that. I wud have been well [censored]ed off if I did. Sometimes you make decisions in an instant which are wrong and then have to face the rest of your life behind bars. I hate all the little thugs out there but it is never as clean cut as that. There are only about 100 murders a year in this country, half of those are domestic violence, the other half are druken fights, or committed by know nothing teenagers, which makes it more complex than just shootin them in the dock. How many ppl have been executed and then found out it wasnt them. Murder is premedatated, those kids dont have the brains to be capable of murder by definition. Half the time they dont know what they are goin to do until they have done it and even then it suprises them. A mans son was murdered, he was hung then it turned out it was a guy who lived upstairs, there are countless case of this. When we have a system that means mistakes are not made then we can start hangin ppl again until then we are stuck tryin to deal with it.
