In the UK I think it's far easier to be
negative.
Thanks mainly to the media.
They thrive on tragedies and scaremongering.
Rather than encourage our sports men & women
the British public love to put them down. Tim
Henman, Andy Murray, David Beckham etc etc.
Not sure where that has stemmed from.
All the British soap storylines seem to be
negative too. Characters having crisis after
crisis. Murders, rapes, domestic abuse,
incest, bullying, broken families...

negativity ...
offers motivation to the situation or party
it is directed at......
fear of failure and drive is produced by that
party or situation to over come the
negativity.....
thus negativity is providing engery ,
direction...
( 9 times out ten the human positive will do
the opposite than the NEG)
GOD LOVES A TRIER !!!!!
what arises from such NEG and POS , where did
it come from ie: manner of conduct ...
one could say it has all the hall marks of
waring factions ( possible a emotion or
product of war ).... but obviously has close
links with ignorance and arrogance...
but i think if you can contain such off
spring emotions one could harness the power
correctly ....
as i think the British people have done to an
extent.....
we keep on using it....and would say it is a
common trait found in English people

I's much easier to be negative as it requires
a lot less energy and effort. Plus by being
negative you usually gain positive
reinforcement from others and this can be
comforting, especially as it requires no
effort from yourself, which may encourage you
to complain more.
Being positive means being strong, and
finding the good in everything, something
which is more difficult to do, but rewarding
in the long run. |

Yet in the 70s and 80s the Italians were very
negative in playing football - yet they
managed to win more often than not. Given
that winning is positive, does this mean that
being negative is a positive trait when
winning a competition - or is this a negative
assumption? If this is true, then we have a
negatively positive team - or a positively
negative side.
Who started all this anyway? |

The reason its easier to believe the bad
things, negatives as the brain takes that on
easier, and we deal with it better when we
receive negative comments as people tend to
shrug it off and say "feck off you winker".
If someone receives positive comment, the way
soceity has changed, we all think what is the
other person after to say that. Although alot
of the time it is genuine, it is harder to
believe. |

Negativity is often perceived as being more
realistic than actually negative.
People seem to stress negative emotions and
negative events alot more than the positive
ones, both in the media and elsewhere, so for
alot of people it's easy to become
pessimistic or cynical.
Also, when people have a bad experience it is
often remembered and thought of alot more
than the good experiences. When we have a bad
experience we constantly feel that it is
inevitably going to happen again and get
worse, and that that is how "life works."
This can lead to general pessism and
negativity on a daily basis, which I feel is
often generated by the fear factor (worry
that more bad experiences will happen). Even
for those who have not had experiences that
they consider to be particularly bad, their
negativity can still be triggered by anxiety
and fear.
There seem to be alot of reasons for
negativity, for example it is also triggered
by a generally negative atmosphere at home,
school, work or as portrayed in the media
etc. A very negative atmosphere leads to a
pessimistic outlook.
However, as said above, it is often thought
to be easier to focus on our own pessism
rather than on good things in our life and
things to appreciate. When we feel upset we
often put alot of our focus onto it, rather
than focusing on what we have to be thankful
for.
This can lead to cries for attention and
people seem to willingly provide each other
sympathy and comfort. Those who are negative
revel in this form of comfort and complain
further or seek more attention. In a sense it
is possible to choose to portray ourselves as
victims. In order to help tackle such
negativity people really need less sympathy
and more empathy. "Oh you poor thing" and a
pat on the back may feel nice but what is
truly needed is some understanding and
thorough encouragement to see things
differently.
Depression without a doubt complicates a
situation, but although more serious help can
often be required, I think that trying to
focus on what we have and the positive things
that have happened in life can be helpful or
therapeutic to some extent.
Sometimes the most therapeutic thing of all
is to try not to think, to make a stern
effort to relax and allow yourself to clear
your head of all thoughts, focusing on sounds
of nature and things that you find pleasant.
It is not a remedy to negativity and
definitely not a remedy to depression, but it
can assist in making you feel more in touch
with yourself and regaining any sanity you
may have lost from stress...This was a
suggestion a teacher once gave me and I have
been recommending it ever since, it has
helped me to get things into perspective a
little. I think it's important to try to have
some time out from thinking if possible every
now and then. |

I feel negativity is often traded between
people as once again it seems easy to wallow
when you feel something negative.
Negativity is the type of things that grow.
It is almost like a flower, it starts off as
something rather small and insignificant, it
then blossoms and pushes its way deeper into
people's lives. The worst thing is that
people can often either consciously or
unconsciously allow it to do that. Whilst one
person is wallowing in negativity, it seems
easy for someone else to join in and begin
complaining about their problems. Something
that can start off as a very small complaint
can easily develop into a huge issue if
negativity is encouraged.
I know this having spent a large part of my
life in negativity, despite being young. It
seemed and still does seem difficult to be
optimistic, because unconsciously people
around me are negative and do unintentionally
encourage alot of negativity, which only
increases ones own pessimistic outlook. |

I dunno. I would say its probably easier to
be negative about something than positive coz
it is easier to frown at everything rather
than smile and be happy happy happy about
everything.
It would be a good way to be but i'm not that
kinda person. |

I think there is a choice to some degree,
yes.
It's only nature for people to have feelings
of negativity, but I think that we can to a
large extent choose what effect that has on
our lives and whether or not we become
victims. Thoughts can be terrible, but they
are also controllable.
I'm not saying it is fully controllable and
I'm not minimising the feelings people have
had, of course not, but I think that
encouragement of positive thinking and making
an effort to get things into perspective can
assist in altering negativity and changing
the effects it has on us.
It probably seems ironic for me to say that,
as for a while I have been depressed and
depression just increases the chances of a
serious lack of optimism.
However I think that can also be tackled in
time. Alot of those with depression think
there is no way out, and for a while that is
exactly what I thought too. I thought there
was no hope at all, but there definitely is
and the first step is to get life into
perspective a little more and do something
that will increase optimism. |

In my case, I think it's easier to be a
pessimist. However, I like being an optimist
more eventhough it requires more effort
because just the process of proving those
kibitzers wrong is fun! And succeeding in
doing so is just the best comeuppance to
them.
