Is it a good idea to have more than 1
antivirus program or are they likely to
conflict?
What are the best ones (Freeware only) to
use?

Don't have more than one anti-virus
first off ....
Avast - anti virus
spyware - PC DOCTOR ( only have on when
scanning , alot like AVG)
registry mechanic ( A Must , i would say )
spybot search and destroy... keep running all
the time
trendmicro - HOME CALL on-line scanner
anti-virus and greyware , spyware etc etc
( ^^use if paranoid )
smitfraud fix ( browser hijack , but found a
good reliable way to get rid of it ,myself )
if you have a 'router' i personally wouldn't
bother with a firewall...
but if you don't use sygate pro firewall...
basic but does the jopb

"can you get free antivirus? "
To answer that question, yes and easily.
ClamAV is a Free software (yes capital F)
anti-virus which picks up on both new and
many older viruses that modern scanners now
ignore, providing a more thorough scan.
With regards to multiple AV packages, yes if
they are NOT software packages offering
kernel modules or real-time scanning.
However why would you want anti-virus
software anyway? Most modern malware doesn't
get picked up by virus scanners these days
anyway, the real threat is rootkits not
viruses.

Chris,
what OS are you using
If windows , then yes it is possible to
use two AV's....
but I would not recommend you do so, there
are conflict issues. Not good ones either.
If Unix , then there is not really a need,
as such....
unless you are running an email server that
moves mail across to windows machines. Then
yes, just to trap possible virus files.
However, only one AV is employed for that
task.
