Which of Dr Who's most recent assistants do
you prefer?
Rose Tyler (played by Billie Piper)
or
Marthan Jones (played by Freema Agyeman)
or
Donna Noble (played by Catherine Tate)
Perhaps it's a bit of an unfair question as
Martha's only appeared in about 4 episodes
but do you like her so far?
Who do you think is sexier?

I think Martha. I mean Rose was good, but i
think Martha stepped up to the plate pretty
well
I also think that the whole "Rose-Dr-in love"
scenario was dragging, and much prefer the
whole "Martha-loves-Dr-who-still-loves-rose"
story line.
Did that makes sense??? |

def Rose. Martha is fine but they just
rushed too much for Marth to fall for the
doctor.
Chris is Rose really returning or are you
just teasing me? BTW, we are always a season
behind in the series. *sniffle* |

Yea, I thought so too.
Dull plot and rubbish Dr Who nemesis. The
Hosts weren't scary.
Do I expect too much from Doctor Who?
The episode with the evil statues that moved
when people blinked was good, they were
pretty freaky.
Daleks In Manhattan was a good one too.

the episodes with Martha in it so i couldn't
possibly comment which brings me onto another
show House Of Cards but that must be
discussed in other places and other times ha

Eastie1?
Cathy, I didn't think you'd like Catherine
Tate.
Is it because she has the same name as you
huh.
All Cathy's together. Hmm...
This was an old thread Sarah. Martha had only
starred in 4 episodes when I created it.
Duh!
Is Kylie coming back to star in more Dr Who
episodes? I thought she was just doing the
Christmas special.

Hmm... who would have thought Billie Piper
would have been good in Doctor Who.
I thought she'd be rubbish when I heard the
news.
Thought Catherine Tate was going to be
rubbish too but she's been okay so far.

I dont like some of her humour
Chris-especially the sketch she did for the
royal command performance I was really
shocked at how rude she was to the Queen
But she is definitely the best actress out of
the three of them

The three of them a great, but as a double act
with the Doctor it's got to be Donna and
Martha rather than Martha and Rose or Donna
and Rose, anyway Louise Jamieson and Ace were
the best doctors companions |

After watching most of this new series, this
is how it stands
Rose is my favourite
Donna second
and Martha
Now shes toned down the sillyness and
shrieking, Catherine's character has become a
lot more likeable Even thought I don't
remember seeing too much of her recently |

I didn't like Donna in the Runaway Bride but
I did like her in the series I prefer to Rose
and Martha. Donna wasn't loved strucked with
the doctor at all like the other two were.
Rose was a lot better with Christopher as the
doctor. Donna stopped being mouthy all the
time and wasn't afraid to say what was on her
mind. I really enjoyed series 4. Martha was
great at the beginning and then in shakespear
code it was clear to see that she had fallen
for him. Who could blame them for falling for
the tenth doc. |

Right, I'm going to end up having a rant
about this, just because I've got reasons to
support both Rose and Martha, but Donna is by
far the best of the three.
For Martha/against Rose:
Rose, although a wonderful character and
really good for the Doctor after the Time War
was almost a Mary Sue. Martha on the other
hand had nothing but her intelligence and her
wits to survive, plus there's the fact that
her 21st century life (unlike Rose's) was not
going to fall apart. Even if she did have
family trouble, Martha was already leading
her own life, med school and all. So Martha
may have been more appealing to some of the
people who like to critically review things
because she didn't really need the doctor to
take her along. She went because she had a
sense of adventure. She was also brilliant
because she could act quickly in almost any
situation, a quick thinker is always good
when it comes to adventures. She could really
stand up for herself if she needed to.
You could throw almost anything at Martha and
she'd adapt quickly and react, she'd figure
something out. I liked that about her... she
was a strong one. Being much older than Rose
when she first started travelling with the
Doctor, she was definitely more mature.
Towards the end of series three Martha
started to take on a lot of Ten's
characteristics, she was really acting a lot
like him. Yes, her character did also mature
a lot

one. I have arguments for both sides here.

<<SPOILER HERE>> Towards the end
of series three Martha started to take on a
lot of Ten's characteristics, she was really
acting a lot like him. Yes, her character did
also mature a lot <<END
SPOILER>>
For Rose/against Martha:
Martha Jones, intelligent, adventurous, a
quick thinker, good companion... there's a
lot that could put me entirely on Martha's
side but (maybe it's just me) didn't Martha
get a little annoying in the first three
episodes? Especially Gridlock.
Quote:
Martha: When you say "last time", was that
you and Rose?
The Doctor: [he pauses, somewhat taken aback
by the question] Um... Yeah! Yeah, it was,
yeah.
Martha: [looking put off] You're taking me to
the same planets that you took her?
The Doctor: [surprised, oblivious] What's
wrong with that?
Martha: [disappointed, upset] Nothing!
[starts to stalk away] 'Cept have you heard
of the word "rebound"?
--Thank you Wikiquote--
That ought to make my point. She was way too
interested in starting a relationship with
the Doctor at the start of the series. Maybe
I just thought like that because I was really
unhappy about that fact that Rose left but
don't you think it was a little annoying when
she flirted a little too much.
Now for more of what I thought was good about
Rose Tyler. Quoting Wikipedia again who
happen to have my exact thoughts on the
matter:
"Rose is a quick-witted, inquisitive and
compassionate young woman."
It's true. Seeing that she'd really the first
companion after the Time War, I suppose she
played a large role in emotionally helping
the Doctor recover a little. Her relationship
with the Doctor was a gradual evolution.
During the time of the Ninth Doctor, it was
more as if she really needed someone to look
up to and believe in, that evolved into a
very deep, strong friendship which bordered
on a romantic relationship during her time
with Ten. Rose and Ten were essentially
dependant on each other and to a certain
extent understood each other well. Rose
seemed to take on a few leadership qualities
from Ten, she displayed this during 'Satan
Pit' when she took charge and got everyone to
be more optimistic about matters.
Donna:
When I first heard Catherine Tate was going
to be on the show in the 2006 Christmas
special, I wasn't so happy. I didn't think
I'd be able to see her as a companion and not
'Lauren'. I certainly felt that 'Runaway
Bride' didn't give enough depth to her
character but her first proper episode
('Partners in Crime' -Series four)
established that she was going to be
brilliant. It's just that she's the one
companion who realises that the Doctor ISN'T
human and therefore doesn't have any romantic
feelings towards him, with the Doctor and
Donna, it's like a sibling relationship.
Donna is also a very charismatic character
and therefore, unlike Martha or Rose, she's
not out shined by the Doctor's presence. |

Wow, what a post.
Mary Sue?
Is that a previous Doctors assistant?
I've not really seen the old Doctor Who's.
No idea who Ten is.
I'll need to buy the old ones soon. |

I can rant.
A mary sue is a type of fictional character
that usually displays very few flaws and
often gets very lucky. She's usually quite
pretty, nice and kind and a walking talking
cliche.
By 'Ten' I was referring to the tenth Doctor.
