How much pain can you take?

Hi all,
I’m new here. great forum!

I’ve been practicing for 20 over years and I
have come to believe that pain and injuries,
and the ability to endure them may be a big
factor in deciding the outcome of a
fight/match? anyone agree? most of the time,
the emphasis it seems is to focus on one's
skills/abilities/technical proficiency etc.
but the fact and reality of fighting remains
- however good one is, if one does not have a
high pain threshold, one will succumb quickly
at the first sign of pain/injury/blood. so
the question is, how does one handle pain?
is there a mental/physical training to
withstand pain? how would you react to, say,
a broken nose, teeth, a kick to the
groin/ribs, a broken arm(amber)?

The question is, will you/should one carry on
fighting despite a bloodied face or simply
surrender?

A lot of it is technique, too. Sure at first
you take punches squarely across your nose.
Your nose breaks, and you learn to better
angle your face so punches slide off. The
first time you get nailed in the ribs you
probably weren’t breathing right. It hurts
and later bruises. Later you learn to exhale
while being hit. Your techniques, stances,
and posture change as you get more
comfortable fighting; as does your
understanding of your art. So how do you deal
with pain? You adapt.

Is there mental/physical training to
withstand pain?
An interesting study found that pain
tolerance is also cultural. Certain cultures
have developed higher pain tolerances than
others. I discover a very interesting

Successful Training, Diet And Preparation For
Victory In An MMA Fight!

I have done (and still am doing) a fair few
styles of martial arts and to help build up a
resistance to pain you have to work with the
way the mind reacts to it rather than the way
the body does. The body needs toughness to
resist damage. The mind needs to learn to
resist pain. One technique I use is when
being hit or when hitting something solid
like a makiwara I think of acceptance of the
pain. Almost making it a part of the mindset
and just carring on right through it. Sorta
like a "yeah its there but it doesnt bother
me" mindset. You can also carry this type of
mindset across to meditational practices.

also have a high pain threshold. I have yet
to find someone who can make me react to
pressure points. Also remember that there
are other techniques to help stop attacks
from hurting. You can build up your abs to
help protect your diaphragm and internal
organs and use tension to protect them. Or,
in a more chinese way, learn to move with the
attacks. Develop flow. There is a way out of
every lock, every submission if your energy
is flowing correctly. Whenever you are in a
submission. Examine your position and find
out where you are being pushed by your
opponent. Then move you body in that
direction. This will help your evasion
tactics.
