hmm... I get a new notebook with vista on
next week. i´ll hope it will work... but: can
it be worse than xp? i mean, they don´t do
the mistakes again they made at the release
of xp, do they?
Like most have been saying - it is eye candy.
The OS is incredibly difficult to use - I
work with computers on a daily basis (just
like many of us) and I can happily say I know
my way round an OS quite quickly - even OSs
like Linux and OS X - but Vista... errr... it
took me an age to even find things like
network card configuration panel - I kept
being taken back to the same screens time and
time again when I thought I was going
elsewhere... I got really frustrated with it!
When you're trying to help a student connect
to a halls of residences LAN it's YOU who
must know what you're doing - because the
student won't know!
The main problem with Vista is that it is
INCREDIBLY heavy on graphics and memory -
although new computers nowadays come with
minimum 3GHz processor, 1GB DDR RAM, SATA
hard disks etc. etc. so they WILL run it very
well... but the increase in processor and RAM
performance is to get the best out of your OS
and stuff like DVDs and Games - you don't
want your OS to be stealing all your memory
and processor power now do you! - It's like
buying a big 4x4 car to carry your family
around and maybe tow a caravan... but by
default your car comes with 4 tonnes of
body-work...!!!!
"Stick with XP, if you want a real upgrade
then get out of Microsoft's realm entirely
and grab a better system like the various
free GNU/Linux or BSD distributions."
I just got a new PC with Vista on it n I can
honestly say that I liked XP better! If you
want to get into chat, you have to download
JAVA because Vista isn't compatible. I
didn't have trouble with my m.s.n. so maybe
that just could be a bug. Keep trying!
Definitely best to stay with XP for the time
being, not funny when you buy a brand new PC
and find out your modem is not compatible
with vista as my mate did
My comuter died a couple of weeks ago so now
I've replaced it and the new one has Vista.
Just now I'm struggling to find my way around
it.
The most irritating thing I've found so far
is that Vista is not compatible with
Microsoft Works so now I need extra software
(and expense) to open my old word processor
files etc.
It's early days but, up to now, I wish I'd
opted to stay with xp.
Vista is ok-ish on a new, fast computer. if
you have less than 1gb of memory don't even
go there! i bought my laptop with xp
installed & a free vista upgrade. i've just
re-installed xp as too much stuff was
crashing. IMHO Windows 2000 is the fastest,
safest version.
Why buy a upgrade pack when you can buy a new
computer, unless you are borring a upgrade
pack for free. any Vista ultimate is the best
but £250 so home premium is essential for
£100. So buy a new computer for about £250
and get 1G RAM, 250G Hardrive and 20 inch
monitor. It makes sense.
lol anyone getting this dude above? "most
software is vista compatible"...
no it isn't lol.
Vista was well hidden away from all sorts of
hardware vendors so they couldn't keep up to
speed and develop Vista compatible drivers
and software.... hence why so many people are
finding they can't get drivers for their
devices....
I have been reading some articles and
Microsoft have made a massive blunder with
vista as there are so many problems with it
and the fact it's so unfriendly, mate of mind
can not play half his games on it and he is
gutted.
I think you need to have like 160gb hard
drive at least to run windows vista. With the
price of windows vista programme it would be
better to buy a new computer rather than put
the programme into an old computer. You might
have to put a bit towards it but you get a
newer machine and flog the old one and it
won't cost as much.
i need a new computor but i dont want vista
on it because i have heard there is alot of
problems like files going missing and stuff
but somone i know who also needed a new
computor had to pay extra to have XP put on
there new computor so i think i'll have to
wait until i have enough money or just risk
vista
(bleep) windows. I too have worked with
computer systems for many years. Http
servers, mail servers, ftp and file servers.
Also programing. Not once have I ever used
Windows.
Hell... I want things to run, not crash.
There are far better OS's you can use, like a
Unix based OS - Linux for example. It's easy
to use, very secure, plenty eye candy; eg: 3D
Desktops and fancy window frames, fully
networkable, has loads of software for doing
just about anything.
Cost: Free to very cheap.
Oh' and you're bound by some stupid software
company in Redmond USA, to upgrade your
computer each time a new version is
released... soz, that should read 'each time
a new version is thrust upon you'
I cannot begin to tell you, just how much I
hate Micro(bleep) Windows.
"you're bound by some stupid software company

I am refering to your current OS, and not
Unix/Linux. Thought I better make that
clear.
