Hoodies in Croydon/Addiscombe

Hi everyone - i'm new here so please be
kind!

Ok guys, i need some advice.

I've recently purchased my first flat in this
area and moved in last Friday and i've
discovered that just outside the entrance to
my small block of flats seems to be the
regular hang out for all the local gangs of
hoodies. I live alone in my flat and i'm
finding it really quite frightening - having
to negotiate your way through a group of
10-15 big guys all aged anywhere between 14
and 17 just to get to the front door isn't
really a nice welcome home in the evening
after work. And then to have to spend the
entire evening listening to the shouts and
bangs going on outside just leaves my nerves
totally frayed wondering if they've found
their way into the entrance hall. What should
a young 20-something girl living alone do in
a situation like that? Is there, practically
speaking, anything i can do? Or do i just
have to accept the fact that this is where i
live now and grin and bear it? Am i actually
in any danger or are they just bored and need
somewhere to hang out?

Any comments would be gratefully received.
Thanks

Hi Clare,

I agree with Ladygenie.

I live in Addiscombe too, but I can't think
where you mean. But, as ladygenie says, don't
worry.

There are plenty of things that you can do. I
would however not agree with the whole 'don't
grass' thing. Only criminals follow that code
of conduct.
I would simply contact Croydon Council,
explain that you are a woman alone and feel
vulnerable. They should take over then. Also,
call the police station and ask if they could
drive by and have a word with the lads. Most
teens in hoodies are fine. But i can see how
a group making noise is annoying and
intimidating. The council and police should
move them on for you.
Unfortunatly Croydon kids are alot like that,
attitude and front, most are nice enough
though.

I think you should just do whatever you can
to get them away, nobody should have to face
that sort of intimidation, let alone have it
happen while you are in your own home.

Although I cant offer any practical advice
because I have never been in that situation,
I wish you the best in getting things sorted!

hello personally from my experience i have
had these troubles before as i live in
addiscombe and have done for the past 6
months i would personally go and talk to them
myself and they usually move on well thats
just me and it does work these hoddies may
not listen to you as you are female (not
trying to be sexist and u probably wouldnt
want to approach them so definetly contact
the council but there proper slack as it is
sorting things out so if they are getting out
of hand do call the police and they will be
happy to come round and escort them away

Contact the police and they should be able to
send out Police Community Support Officer's
(PCSO's). That's their job. How would they
know that you called them. The poice will not
tell them. If it still doesnt work consider
moving. I know plenty of good places around
Addiscombe.

hi clare my name is paul i live in croydon
but i understand your concern regarding the
hoodies of addiscombe. I get down to your
area very much and my friends there often
have the same prob as you. They can be very
rude and brash alot sadly that is the nature
of alot of the teens in your neck of the
woods. I know it is easy for me to say this
to you but try to ignore them as they mainly
have nothing else to do but smoke puff and
sit around swearing and getting up to
mischief. Long as you ignore them you should
be ok. If they do hassle you then i suggest a
discreet call to the police. Drop me a reply
if you get the time. By the way my nickname
handle is roosterone xxx

im i6 and just read what u wrote..my answer
is this..make a note of how many u see..and
how much time they spend there..my guess is
there doing something ilegal and all u need
is evidence and you can report them..theres
nothing u can do lyk telling them they cant
stay there..
i want to see people working together not
just the goverment but the public to..ove 10
buy dead this year through stabbing and
probably a lot more we dont know about both
girls,boys,adults.. its about time we put a
stop to this before it gets out of hand.. me
and a couple of people are tryign as much as
possible to gain knowlege on exactly how
these people think..if we knew we could stop
them..
there is a safe place in the worl dfor
anyone to run to anymore.. so we have no
choice but to make one..
when i have a family i would like to
think. they had the choice of going out
without me wondering if i was going to see
them again..we all live to make a diffrence
both in a bad way or good way..and this is
the time..theres no time like the right
time..
we all have problems but we cnt say its
bigger than the next persons..we need to make
a safe country and a safe world..
i hope you all understand me an ddon
tthink im being histerical. but i have
definetly had enough of this rubbish.. so we
should all join heads and think of how to
beat this growing crime world.
thanks for taking your time to read this.

Okay i live in Croydon/Addiscombe, and it's
always been like this. You can't really tell
if you're in danger or not. But don't worry,
just stay out of their way! >.< That's
what i do.

I would suggest having a [censored] in a
bucket, then throwing the contents down over
them. duck inside befor they notice which
window it came from.
Hopefully they'll soon get the message and
move on.
I wouldn't bother calling the police, as even
if they do come, they won't do anything and
the youths will be back again

Ok guys...

New member here and yes I speak my mind lol.

Agreeing with some people on her Hoddie
people as still people under the hoods. In
the first place you should not feel
intimidated by them, they are just clothes.

As hard as this may sound...go and have a
chat with them, get on their level. Not all
hoddie people are bad. We all monitor too
many papers and TV regarding this to the
point that we believe that you do not
approach a person with a hood over their
head!!!

Be brave....or go and buy a hoddie yourself
and beat them at their own game lol

Gaz

in my line of work i come across all sorts
and most of the kids in hoods are just bored
and broke, but they can get aggressive if
they feel threatened, its a fight or flight
mentality,
you can monitor their activity and keep a
diary which you cna hand to the police in the
event of a incident, but you will mainly find
that they are just out of money and ideas and
"hangin" out,
if that dosent work do what my old neighbour
used to do and give them an apple when you
pass, it confuses the hell out of them, they
will get bored eventually and move on,

that they can rop old ladys i will be the
first to put my fist tru them i still wear a
hoody sumtimes but only when it is cold but
lets face it it is cold all the time in the

just because someone wheres a hood top doesnt
mean they are a criminal. i am 39 and i have
2 top with hoods on the back and if it rains
then it is practical to wear one.doesnt mean
when i am in croydon that i am a criminal. i
am not saying that is the case for every1 but
lets not tar every1 with the same brush.

hun ur not in danger, theyr just bored and
have nothing to do,try and avoid getting on
there bad side, even if you did i still dont
think they would be a threat,i dont think you
should have to accept thats where your livig
and thats how it should be but if they are
causing to much trouble you can always make a
call to council or even to the police to get
them moved on,these kids thrive on fear..and
tey take advantage of it ..so head up high
and walk on by! good luck hun xxx
